[Dhp8-100]

Sahassam api ce vācā anatthapadasaṃhitā

  사하쌈 아삐 쩨 와짜   아낫타빠다상히따

ekaṃ atthapadaṃ seyyo yaṃ sutvā upasammati.

에강   앗타빠당  세이요  양 수뜨와 우빠삼마띠

▣ 비록 천 마디의 말들이라도 의미 없는 말들로 구성된 것이라면    

   듣고 나서 (마음이) 평온해지는 한 마디의 의미 있는 말이 좋을 것이다.      

 

▣ 쓸데없는 천 마디 말을 하는 것보다 들어서 안온해지는 한 마디의 말이 낫다.

▣ Even though a speech be a thousand (of words), but made up of senseless words,

   one word of sense is better, which if a man hears, he becomes quiet.

ekaṃ gāthāpadaṃ seyyo yaṃ sutvā upasammati.

에깡   가타빠당  세이요  양 수뜨와  우빠삼마띠

▣ 비록 천 개의 시들이라도 의미 없는 말들로 구성된 것이라면   

   듣고 나서 (마음이) 평온해지는 하나의 시구가 좋은 것이다.    

 

▣ 쓸데없는 천 마디 시구를 외우는 것보다 들어서 안온해지는 한 마디의 시구가 낫다.

▣ Even though a Gatha (poem) be a thousand (of words), but made up of senseless words,

   one word of a Gatha is better, which if a man hears, he becomes quiet.
