Dhp19-268 : 혼미하고 무지한 자가 침묵한다고 성자가 되는 것은 아니다.

na monena munī hoti mūlharūpo aviddasu

나 모네나 무니 호띠 물라루뽀 아윗다수

yo ca tulaṃ va paggayha varam ādāya paṇḍito.

요 짜 뚤랑 와 빡가야이하 와람 아다야 빤디또

 

▣ 침묵한다고 해서 어리석고 무지(無知)한 자가 성자(聖者)가 되는 것은 아니다. 그러나 저울을 가지고

    달듯 최선을 취하고 나서

▣ 혼미하고 무지한 자가 침묵한다고 성자가 되는 것은 아니다. 저울로 다는 것처럼, 현명한 님이라면

    최선을 다한다.

▣ 268, 269. A man is not a Muni because he observes silence (mona, i.e. mauna), if he is

   foolish and ignorant; but the wise who, taking the balance, chooses the good and avoids evil,

   he is a Muni, and is a Muni thereby; he who in this world weighs both sides is called a Muni.
